In partnership with the Tennessee RiverLine, Calvert City Elementary School, Calvert City Golf & Country Club, and the City of Calvert City, fifth-grade students from Calvert City Elementary participated in Paddle Skills Day today, gaining hands-on experience in kayaking and outdoor water safety.
Held at the Calvert City Golf & Country Club swimming pool, the event provided a controlled environment where students learned the basics of kayaking, practiced important water safety protocols, and discovered fascinating facts about the Tennessee River, which stretches 652 miles. For nearly half of the students, this marked their very first time in a kayak. The combination of education and recreation made for an exciting and memorable morning.
“Introducing kids to the outdoors in a safe and fun way opens the door to lifelong experiences on the water. Watching their faces light up as they paddled for the first time was incredible,” said Blair Travis, Director of Marketing, Communications, and Business Development for the City of Calvert City.
The Paddle Skills Day program reflects Calvert City’s commitment to encouraging outdoor recreation and healthy lifestyles for the community’s youth.
What is the Tennessee RiverLine?
The Tennessee RiverLine is a vision for a continuous system of paddling, hiking, and biking experiences along the full 652 miles of the Tennessee River. It aims to connect communities, inspire new generations of river stewards, and promote outdoor recreation and healthy lifestyles across the region. Calvert City became a TN RiverTown in 2021, but has always had a strong connection to the river since the founding of Calvert City.
