Calvert City released its 2025 utility rates, which took effect on January’s bill. The city’s rates will increase in 2025 and remain lower compared to our region.
The 4.63% increase in 2025 is necessary to adequately fund the operations and capital improvements of our water and sewer systems. The city’s utility rates remain affordable, while also financing the maintenance of the city’s aging distribution system. The rate is calculated by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics using the Consumer Price Index which is measured by the average change over time in the prices paid by consumers for a market basket of consumer goods and services.
The increase is not simply a billing fee. The decision to increase by the city council members was to help fund:
- Maintenance of the city’s water system.
- Infrastructure at the water treatment plant.
- Upgrades to the facilities.
- All of the costs associated with managing accounts and utility billing.
