Calvert City Utilities is expanding water service to rural areas within the Calvert City Water District, thanks to the Cleaner Water Grant Program funding. This initiative, part of the Better Kentucky Plan, ensures that rural and underserved communities receive improved water services, enhancing health, safety, and quality of life.
In 2024, 17 new water meters were installed on PB Cloud Lane and Mulberry Rd, enhancing access to reliable drinking water. In mid-March, 22 meter setters will be installed at residences along Lone Valley Road from Little Rock Lane to Highway 62. Residents living in this area are encouraged to contact Calvert City Hall to discuss the placement of the meter setter.
Through this grant, the typical $1,700 tap-on fee for new customers outside of the city limits will be waived for those in the Lone Valley project area. The standard $150 deposit for new water customers will not be waived and can be paid at Calvert City Hall. While Calvert City Utilities will install the meter setters, residents are responsible for hiring a qualified plumber to connect their homes to the new water supply, transitioning from well water to city water service. Should the homeowner choose not to become a customer, only a meter setter will be placed.
“This expansion is an essential step in ensuring that every home has access to clean, safe drinking water,” said Bobby Henson, Superintendent of Calvert City Utilities. “Reliable water service is a basic necessity, and we are committed to improving accessibility for our rural community.”
Mayor Gene Colburn emphasized the importance of expanding the city’s water service, both for the well-being of residents and for the long-term sustainability of the utility.
“Bringing more customers onto Calvert City Water helps us keep water affordable for everyone in our community,” Mayor Colburn said. “We’re grateful for this grant, which allows us to serve more residents without additional financial burden. Expanding access to clean drinking water strengthens our community and supports future growth.”
Residents on Lone Valley Road from Little Rock Lane to Highway 62 interested in connecting to Calvert City Water should contact Calvert City Hall as soon as possible. For more information, please call (270) 395-7138 or email info@calvertcityky.gov.
