The Calvert City Police Department has hired Derik Perry as its newest police officer. Mayor Gene Colburn administered the oath of office on Monday, Sept. 29, at Calvert City Hall. A Marshall County native, Perry was born and raised in Fairdealing, has lived in Benton and throughout the county, and is a graduate of Marshall County High School.

After high school, Perry taught jiu-jitsu, attended college, and worked a variety of odd jobs. In his late 20s, a friend encouraged him to apply to the Paducah Police Department. He did, and he has served there for 17 years. During his tenure, Perry was a defensive tactics instructor for many years, drawing on his background in martial arts and self-defense, and he served on the department’s SWAT team for several years.

“What I enjoy most is getting to know people in the community, bridging gaps and giving people positive experiences with the police,” Perry said. “I am really excited to be working in my own community, working at home.”

“Officer Perry brings seasoned expertise and a service-first approach,” Calvert City police chief Mike Canon said. “With him on board, our lineup is complete and better prepared to meet the community’s needs every day.”

Calvert City leaders welcomed Perry’s commitment to community policing and public safety. He joins the department as it continues its focus on service, professionalism, and engagement across the city.
