Compliance/Enforcement Officer

General Duties and Responsibilities
The Compliance/Enforcement Officer assists the City Administrator with a range of duties, including:

Conducting onsite inspections for zoning compliance, floodplain applications, and permits.

Investigating nuisance complaints and violations related to weeds, junk vehicles, and unsafe or unfit structures.

Preparing reports and issuing “Notice of Violation” letters as needed.

Assisting with documentation for enforcement actions and taking remediation measures when appropriate.

Developing educational materials to help residents, businesses, and contractors understand the application and permitting process.

Performing other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Education, Experience, and Ability Requirements
Education and Experience:

Must be at least 21 years of age.

High school diploma or GED equivalent required.

Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
-
Strong interpersonal skills for working with the general public.

Ability to conduct research and complete departmental forms and records accurately.

Proficiency in reading maps, plats, and plans.
-
Valid driver’s license required.
-
Preferred background in one or more of the following areas: law enforcement, construction, city planning, floodplain management, or public administration.
Abilities and Skills:

Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with the public, co-workers, and stakeholders.

Self-motivated, positive attitude with strong problem-solving skills.

Ability to work collaboratively and assertively when needed.

Willingness to travel occasionally for work-related training or duties.
