Community partners across Marshall County will come together to celebrate Earth Day 2026 with a day of education, conservation, and hands-on activities at the Sustainability and Educational Garden at Kentucky Dam Village.
The event will take place on April 22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is a collaborative effort among Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park, the City of Calvert City, the Marshall County Public Library, and the Marshall County Master Gardener Association.
Calvert City Elementary School third-grade students will attend and participate in a variety of Earth Day-themed games and crafts. Students will also help plant a pollinator garden on site and explore the Urban Forest Initiative sign tree trail, gaining a deeper understanding of environmental stewardship.
The Marshall County Library will support the event by providing an educational program for students. At the same time, the Marshall County Master Gardeners will offer a live demonstration of hügelkultur, a renewable gardening technique that promotes sustainable soil health. This demonstration will be open to the public.
In addition, the City of Calvert City will host a tree giveaway for attendees. Available tree species include dogwood, redbud, chestnut, and red maple.
“This event is a great example of what can happen when local organizations come together with a shared purpose,” said Blair Travis, director of marketing and business development for the City of Calvert City. “By combining our resources and expertise, we are creating an engaging and meaningful experience that highlights the importance of sustainability and community involvement.”
The Sustainability and Educational Garden at Kentucky Dam Village serves as a centerpiece for the event. Developed through the dedication and hard work of Kentucky Dam Village employees, the garden has become a place of quiet reflection and natural beauty. Visitors are encouraged to read, explore, and immerse themselves in nature while learning about sustainable practices.
Community members of all ages are invited to attend and take part in this celebration of Earth Day.
