The Fulton County Transit Authority (FCTA) has expanded its transportation services to include Calvert City and surrounding areas, providing residents with new opportunities for reliable and affordable access to everyday necessities such as grocery stores, healthcare appointments, and employment.
Established in 1985 by the Fulton County Fiscal Court, the FCTA began operations in February 1986 to serve Region 1 of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. As a nonprofit entity, the FCTA operates under the oversight of the Kentucky Department of Transportation and a Board of Directors appointed by the Fulton County Judge Executive. The agency ensures compliance with all federal transportation regulations and maintains a mission to serve the mobility needs of western Kentucky communities.
“The expansion of Fulton County Transit Authority into Calvert City ensures that our residents have access to essential services and the freedom to travel where they need to go,” said Gene Colburn, Calvert City Mayor. “Reliable transportation is vital for a thriving community, and this partnership helps our residents maintain independence and enjoy an improved quality of life.”
FCTA’s service model includes same-day “Demand Response” trips, available for destinations such as grocery stores, Walmart, banks, or even visits to a friend’s house within Region 1. These trips can be arranged between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Medical trips can also be scheduled in advance and extend to destinations such as Louisville, Lexington, Hopkinsville, Bowling Green, or Nashville, ensuring passengers arrive at their appointments on time.
The agency also offers Ride to Work passes, allowing commuters to pay a monthly rate for weekday transportation between 5 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. The service currently averages around 7,000 rides per month, and with this expansion, FCTA anticipates increased ridership in Fiscal Year 2026.
“We believe that everyone deserves access to transportation—whether it’s for groceries, a doctor’s visit, or a job,” said Kim Jobe, FCTA Marketing Director. “By expanding our services into Calvert City and Marshall County, we’re filling a vital need in the community and helping connect people to the resources that matter most.”
Fares for rides within city limits are $3 one way or $5 round trip, while trips between county and city areas cost $10 one way or $18 round trip. Passengers can pay with exact cash or use a credit card when scheduling a ride.
