Position Title: Police Officer (Patrolman)

 

General Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Patrol assigned areas and enforce laws and ordinances.
  • Respond to calls, conduct preliminary investigations, and prepare accurate reports.
  • Issue citations, make arrests, and serve legal documents.
  • Assist in emergencies, control traffic, provide security, and administer first-aid as needed.
  • Provide funeral escorts when necessary.
  • May operate radar equipment and participate in approved law enforcement training courses.

 

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum one year of law enforcement experience.
  • Certification by the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council meeting the peace officer qualifications of the Peace Officer Professional Standards Act.
  • Successful completion and certification of basic training approved by the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council (and annual in-service training after that) as mandated by KRS 15.380 to KRS 15.404

Knowledge, Essential Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the geography of the city.
  • Knowledge of state, and local laws and ordinances.
  • Knowledge of police methods, practices, and procedures with the ability to apply knowledge to in specific situations.
  • Knowledge of departmental equipment and first-aid application.
  • Have the ability to act quickly and efficiently and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Have the ability to deal courteously, but firmly with the public.
  • Have the skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other police departments/agencies/coworkers.
  • Have the skills to prepare written reports accurately.

 

 

This is a non-exempt position with overtime opportunities. Applicants must hold a valid Commonwealth of Kentucky driver’s license and be available to work irregular hours as needed.
