During the monthly Calvert City Council meeting on August 12, the city council approved an Industrial Revenue Bond resolution for Churchill Downs Incorporated, paving the way for the company to establish a historical racing gaming venue in Calvert City.
“This significant investment plans to bring $40 million in capital to the community, creating 250 construction jobs and 90 permanent full-time positions with approximately $4 million in annual wages,” said Elizabeth Griffith Mudd, president of Kentucky Lake Economic Development.
The new venue, a 23,000-square-foot facility, plans to host 250 historical racing machines, a sports bar, sportsbook, and a simulcast center. This project is posed to have a transformative impact on local tourism and interstate traffic, drawing visitors from across Western Kentucky and beyond. Local hotels and businesses are expected to see increased patronage, further boosting the local economy.
Churchill Downs Inc. selected Calvert City for its convenient location near Kentucky Lake, Land Between the Lakes, and the convergence of two major interstates. The project promises quality jobs and to enhance the region’s entertainment offerings.
“I am excited to work with Churchill Downs. They are a Kentucky company renowned for producing extraordinary events and experiences. Their investment in our community recognizes the potential of coupling extraordinary outdoor experiences with developed attractions and services,” said Gene Colburn, mayor of Calvert City.
Calvert City offers a unique and business-friendly environment, with its proximity to major transportation routes, scenic Kentucky Lake, and a supportive community. Companies looking to establish or expand their operations will find Calvert City to be a welcoming destination, equipped with the resources and infrastructure needed for success.
