Position Overview:
Under general direction, the Sanitation Equipment Operator will drive collection vehicles and supervise the collection and disposal of refuse on assigned routes. This position ensures that routes are completed on time, vehicle maintenance is up to standard, and customer complaints are addressed promptly. Compensation:
This full-time position offers competitive hourly compensation with an excellent benefits package, including health, life, vision, dental, disability insurance, retirement, paid sick leave, holiday, and vacation time.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive collection vehicles and supervise refuse collection and disposal within the city.
- Ensure daily routes are completed efficiently and on time.
- Report customer complaints or issues to supervisors for corrective action.
- Perform routine vehicle and equipment maintenance, ensuring cleanliness and operational readiness.
- Assist in determining or adjusting collection routes as necessary.
- Support the Sanitation or Street Departments with additional duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Licensing Requirements: A valid Commonwealth of Kentucky Driver’s License is required. A Class A (preferred) or Class B Commercial Driver’s License endorsement is mandatory.
- Education and Experience: Sufficient training and education to operate assigned equipment and follow oral and written instructions.
- Geography Knowledge: Familiarity with the City’s streets, alleys, businesses, and residences.
- Collection Methods: A thorough understanding of refuse collection, disposal methods, and the associated equipment.
- Safety and Hazards: Knowledge of work hazards and necessary safety precautions.
- Mechanical Skills: Ability to identify and perform minor repairs on equipment and vehicles.
- Supervision and Communication: Ability to supervise others and communicate effectively with city employees and the public.
- Physical Requirements: Good physical condition, mechanical aptitude, and manual dexterity.
- Additional Requirements: availability to respond to emergency calls at all hours upon call.
