Compliance/Enforcement Officer

General Duties and Responsibilities

The Compliance/Enforcement Officer assists the City Administrator with a range of duties, including:

  • Conducting onsite inspections for zoning compliance, floodplain applications, and permits.

  • Investigating nuisance complaints and violations related to weeds, junk vehicles, and unsafe or unfit structures.

  • Preparing reports and issuing “Notice of Violation” letters as needed.

  • Assisting with documentation for enforcement actions and taking remediation measures when appropriate.

  • Developing educational materials to help residents, businesses, and contractors understand the application and permitting process.

  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

 


Minimum Education, Experience, and Ability Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.

  • Strong interpersonal skills for working with the general public.

  • Ability to conduct research and complete departmental forms and records accurately.

  • Proficiency in reading maps, plats, and plans.

  • Valid driver’s license required.

  • Preferred background in one or more of the following areas: law enforcement, construction, city planning, floodplain management, or public administration.

 


Abilities and Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with the public, co-workers, and stakeholders.

  • Self-motivated, positive attitude with strong problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively and assertively when needed.

  • Willingness to travel occasionally for work-related training or duties.
