Calvert Area Development Association (CADA) is excited to honor Thomas “Sprout” Davis as the Grand Marshal of the 2024 Ameribration Parade. The parade kicks off along 5th Ave on July 4 at 6:00 p.m. and the 2024 parade theme is “Party like it’s 1776!”

Each year, CADA chooses the Ameribration Grand Marshal and parade theme during its monthly meeting in May. When choosing the Grand Marshal, nominations are collected verbally by the CADA membership, and the selection is based on someone or group who embodies a vibrant spirit, improves the city’s quality of life, and is a resident or former resident of Calvert City.

Davis has led an extraordinary life. Born and raised in Calvert City, he grew up working on a farm with his grandfather along Highway 95 where Royal Park Subdivision residents now. He started out making .5 cents a week and topped his salary at .50 cents after several years. He later served in the Navy during World War II off the coast of Okinawa on a destroyer. After the war, Davis made his way home to Calvert City and worked for GAF Corp. In 1948, he purchased the local pharmacy with a partner and renamed the pharmacy Karns and Davis, contributing significantly to local healthcare until selling it in 1953. Upon retirement from GAF, Davis purchased his Lincoln Continental he still drives today bragging it has just over 100,000 miles.

Davis has been an active member of the First Baptist Church in Calvert City and on July 2, he will be turning 100 years old. When asked how long he attended First Baptist Church, he said, “I reckon nearly 100 years.” Reflecting on his centenary, Davis humorously credits his life longevity to “Calvert Water.” He spends most of his days at Snap Fitness working out or riding his golf cart through town.

Ameribration kicks off festivities on June 24 with the Ameribration Pageant ending July 4 with the parade and fireworks. The City of Calvert City in collaboration with Calvert Area Development Association (CADA) organizes Ameribration and the festive event has become a beloved tradition, bringing the community together featuring a full day of entertainment and activities for all ages.
