Calvert City, KY (June 26, 2020) – Calvert City’s Youth Voice is a monthly writing contest developed for young authors between the age of 5 and 18. Young writers are encouraged to submit original work in any style of creative writing. One winner will be awarded monthly. The first deadline for entry is set for August 5.

Entries can include a short story, essay, or poem providing writing adheres to word limits set out in the terms and conditions. Winning works will be printed in the Lake News monthly and be recognized at the Calvert City Council Meeting which is held on the second Monday of each month at City Hall.

“Communication is the ability to express ideas. The challenge of expressing opinions or emotions clearly and concisely with purpose are challenges far beyond English and writing classes. Calvert City wants to encourage its youth to speak up and speak out,” said Calvert City’s Mayor, Mr. Lynn Jones. “Today’s generation has thought-provoking ideas and strong opinions. We need to hear those ideas and visions. I hope the writing contest encourages many to open their souls and bravely express their hearts,” he followed.

Monthly winners will receive $50 and an ad in the Lake News with their published work. The deadline to submit work will be on the 5th of each month beginning August 5. This contest is not limited to Calvert City residents. We encourage writers from across the region to submit their original work.
