(Calvert City, KY) – Calvert City is happy to provide yoga classes to the community beginning January 4. Take part in the indoor yoga sessions at the Calvert City Civic Center or join us outdoors in our city parks during warmer months.

The instructor, Leanne Johnson, has been practicing yoga for 15 years. Most recently, she taught Yoga for Seniors in Paducah. Johnson grew up in Marshall County and has lived in Calvert City for the last five years. “I love how active you can be in Calvert City. The multi-use path is great to ride bikes to and from the pool or park and I can’t wait to go all the way to Kentucky Dam,” she said.

The class is free and open to the public. School-age children must be accompanied by an adult to participate. Classes will be held on Saturday mornings at 8:00 AM and Monday evenings at 6:00 PM in the Calvert City Civic Center. In the warmer months, Johnson plans to move outdoors to one of the Calvert City parks. There are a few dates and times that might change because of conflicting events. Please see those dates below.

Yoga is unlike any other workout. “I love being forced to slow down and being able to push my body to its limits. There is a lot of good to be said for the mind/body connection and intentional breathing. It also keeps your body moving in all the ways you need it to,” said Johnson. She believes Yoga can strengthen your immune system, relieve stress in the body and calm the mind allowing you to sleep better and feel better. On the first day of the course, Johnson plans to go over the basics and she especially wants everyone to know that this course is for all skill levels. She has experience helping participants adapt to their comfort level and it is her goal for everyone to benefit from these classes.

There is no pre-registration for these classes and it is free to the community. Yoga mats will not be provided. Participants are required to bring a yoga mat to each class.
