The U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Kentucky Division for Air Quality (KDAQ) announced the completion of an air monitoring study near the Calvert City Industrial Complex this week. A community meeting will be held on February 13 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Marshall County Public Library in Calvert City.

The study sheds light on monitoring conducted near the industrial complex in 2020-21. With the study covering over 200 pages, a fact sheet is available by clicking HERE. A copy of the complete study can be downloaded by clicking HERE.

While the city lacks direct authority for regulatory enforcement, we believe in supporting collaboration with the EPA, KDAQ, and the industry complex in finding both long-term and short-term strategies to reduce exposure in Calvert City. “We are keenly interested in learning more about the study and how these conditions affect the health of our entire community. I am confident that the EPA and the KDAQ will work to inform the public of the situation and engage with the appropriate organizations to address these issues,” said Calvert City Mayor Gene Colburn.

Please attend the February 13 community meeting at the Marshall County Public Library from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Calvert City. This is an opportunity for citizens to voice their concerns as well as understand more in-depth about the study. The meeting is also available virtually by registering HERE.

For further questions regarding the study, please get in touch with Nicholas Barnett at barnett.nicholas@epa.gov. For media inquiries, please contact the EPA directly at region4press@epa.gov or at (404) 562-8400.
