The Marshall County Public Library is excited to announce the distribution of the sixth installment of the beloved Merry the Christmas Fairy series, titled “Bright’s Big Idea,” throughout December. Authored by the library director, Tammy Blackwell, and adorned with enchanting illustrations crafted by fifth-grade students from the Marshall County Public Schools, this festive literary tradition continues to captivate young readers.

Initiated in 2015, Merry the Christmas Fairy is more than just a delightful holiday story; it’s an early literacy project designed to foster a love for reading among young minds. Research consistently demonstrates that children who have increased access to books at home during their formative years perform better academically.

To ensure that the magic of Merry reaches every corner of the community, the Lions Clubs of Benton and Calvert City have donated funds to allow each preschool and Kindergarten student within the Marshall County Public Schools to receive a complimentary copy of “Bright’s Big Idea.” Additionally, copies will be available at the Calvert City Christmas Parade on December 2 and the Benton Christmas Parade on December 9. Interested readers can also find copies at the Marshall County Public Library. There is no charge for the Merry the Christmas Fairy books.

As part of the festive celebrations, a special book signing event will take place at the Benton branch of the library on Saturday, December 9, starting at 1:00 PM. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to meet the talented fifth-grade illustrators who brought Merry’s world to life.

Merry the Christmas Fairy, known as Santa’s Librarian, encourages children to embark on a reading journey throughout December. According to Merry, the magic stored in the pages of books is released into the air, allowing Santa’s reindeer to take flight. It’s a heartwarming message that adds an extra layer of joy to the holiday season.

Catch Mary the Christmas Fairy at the Santa Fly-in on December 1 AND at the Calvert City Tree Lighting on December 2!
