Calvert City is inviting the public to participate in its second-ever homegrown tomato contest.

Beginner gardeners, experienced gardeners, and those just looking for competition are invited to participate. The contest is not limited to Calvert City residents.

Tomatoes can be grown in a pot, a 5-gallon bucket, or in the ground. You can enter as many tomatoes as you want from July 2 until September 9.

To enter a tomato, go to Holly Nursery and complete a form. Holly Nursery will then weigh your tomato on-site. After taking your tomato to the nursery, post a photo of the tomato to social media, and be sure to tag Calvert City.

Categories include the biggest ripe tomato of Calvert City, the biggest overall ripe tomato, and the smallest ripe tomato.

Winners will receive a $50 gift card to Holly Nursery, bragging rights for the year, and a homegrown tomato contest t-shirt.

For more information call 270-395-7138 or stop by Holly Nursery in Calvert City.
