Calvert City Council approved the appointment of Dustin Burchett as the city’s next city administrator during a special called meeting at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1.

Burchett was the unanimous choice of the selection committee. Mayor Gene Colburn appointed Burchett with the approval of City Council, following the process for appointing city officers.

He will succeed longtime City Administrator John Ward, bringing new leadership to build on the city’s accomplishments and guide its continued growth.

“This is a pivotal moment for Calvert City. Hiring Dustin provides continuity in the city administrator’s role and continues the strong leadership our citizens have come to expect,” Colburn said. “We have a strong foundation to build upon, and we look forward to the experience and commitment Dustin brings to our community.”

With more than five years of executive-level leadership experience, Burchett has worked with elected officials, engineers, residents and contractors to improve government operations in eastern Kentucky. His approach emphasizes clear communication, financial accountability and planning for long-term community growth.

“I am deeply honored and grateful for the opportunity to serve as the next City Administrator of Calvert City,” Burchett said. “I look forward to building upon the city’s established record of success and am thrilled for my family to join this wonderful community.”

As city administrator, Burchett will work with the mayor, City Council and city departments to oversee daily operations, carry out city priorities and plan for Calvert City’s future.

Burchett will officially begin his duties on October 26. An active member of the Raceland community, he looks forward to bringing that same involvement to Calvert City, building relationships and taking part in the community he and his family will call home.
