Parents and school-aged children are encouraged to celebrate two back-to-school events happening in Calvert City this summer.

The Calvert City Methodist Church partnered with Calvert City to host a Family Fun Day in Memorial Park on July 30 from 10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Activities will be held in and out of the water. There will be free inflatables provided by Lifestyle Occasions and the local food truck, Yellow Umbrella, will be handing out free snow cones for the kids.

“The Calvert City Methodist Church reached out wanting to do a back-to-school event in the park. The city had already made plans to host a back-to-school event, so partnering was a no-brainer,” said Blair Travis, director of marketing and business development. “We are so blessed with many volunteers in Calvert City willing to spend time hosting community events that improve the quality of life in our community.”

On August 5, Calvert City will be hosting its next Moonlight Movie Night at dusk in Memorial Park. The movie Jungle Cruise is sponsored by Tag Truck Service.

The Life Associates have organized a supply drive for Marshall County Family Resource Centers. Items needed are clear backpacks, water bottles, and snack pack items. Suggested snack pack items include peanut butter crackers, fruit cups, animal crackers, beef jerky, trail mix, single-serve mac and cheese, pudding cups, or Chef Boyardee meals. Drop-off locations are Calvert City Hall, Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, and The Life Associates, Inc in Benton. Items will be collected until August 5. “We want to demonstrate how outreach, finding needs in your community, and actively volunteering can create a positive influence on our youth,” said Brook Gaudy with The Life Associates in Benton regarding the school supply drive. The supplies will be presented to the Calvert City Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) on August 5 before the movie.

The movie on August 5 will begin around 8:15 p.m., but prior to the movie, there will be yard games and give-a-ways for the kids. Families are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy the movie. Popcorn and Kona Ice will be for sale at the event and portions will be donated to the local Calvert City PTO.

August 5 is also the first EVENING EDITION of Food Truck Friday! Food Truck Friday – Evening Edition is held from 4:30 PM – 7:30 PM in Memorial Park through October.
